Stroke awareness seminar in Goiás legislature
The second stroke and aphasia awareness seminar took place at the Goiás State Legislative Assembly, bringing together stroke survivors, their families, and elected officials. Organizers emphasized that society needs to not just welcome these patients but actually listen to them — and having lawmakers in the room to hear their needs sends a powerful signal. The event focused on educating people about stroke treatments, recovery paths, and what's possible after surviving one.
Fabiana's personal story and mission
Fabiana suffered a stroke at age 39, losing her ability to speak as a result. Years later, she recovered her speech and now works alongside organizer Juliana to show stroke survivors that life continues after the event. Her core message is direct: stroke survivors have a future. She's committed to helping others recognize early stroke warning signs and understand rehabilitation options available to them.
Bracelet program becomes law in Goiânia
Fabiana and Juliana brought their cordão estrela initiative to Goiânia's city council — an identification bracelet that marks people with physical, motor, visual, or speech disabilities resulting from stroke. The program passed, making Goiânia the first city in Brazil to adopt it. The bracelet serves both as visible identification and as a conversation starter to raise awareness about stroke recovery in everyday life.
