Deep Dive
ChatGPT as a daily equalizer
Brad and Bryan both have Stargardt's disease, a condition that degrades center vision over time. They use ChatGPT constantly — 100% of their day, by Brad's count. The tool handles concrete tasks: reading menus and recommending dishes, identifying street corners when Brad gets lost in Manhattan, spotting what's on a plate or a specials board. The payoff isn't convenience — it's autonomy. Brad explicitly states ChatGPT has leveled the playing field for people with disabilities by eliminating the need to ask for help on everyday tasks.
Two Blind Brothers as nonprofit and career platform
The brothers founded Two Blind Brothers as a 501(c)(3) focused on blindness awareness and education. But they've scaled it beyond awareness into Thrive Blind, a new program with a specific goal: bridge blind students into good careers. They've built partnerships with established blindness organizations doing direct service work. ChatGPT handles the infrastructure — it manages incoming emails, surfaces unfinished tasks from weekly memos, builds accessible websites with screen reader compliance and properly sized fonts, and even queries databases to identify foundations and corporate funders active in the vision space.
The invisible weight vest
Brad uses a striking metaphor: people with visual impairment have lived their whole lives wearing weight vests, metaphorically. ChatGPT lets them take it off. The brothers also showcase the human side — the hardest part of running Two Blind Brothers isn't being blind, Brad jokes, it's being brothers. Their closing bit with ChatGPT comparing which brother is more handsome lands the point that the tool is practical but not a substitute for personality, humor, or the messy reality of working together.
